"Fornals has earnt the right to continue.."
Bollocks to that. He has shown so many times how shit he is despite running a lot

Re: Team for Villa
Playing for a win to go fifth with three (apparently) shit players likely to be in the line up and one good player to come back and one looking exciting to watch on the bench?

Played a good few of the top teams as well?

What have we got to moan about? Oh I know pushing on forget the fuckers in the main who have got us into this position SWAP THEM OUT................all under the guidance of DAVID MOYES.....even I was well pissed off when he was reinstated as manager.......

Re: Team for Villa
Arthurs been really good. Have no idea what game people are seeing. One of the best things about having Arthur and creswell in the same team is both of them can do each others job somewhat on the left side.

This allows cress to go forward and assist more.
I dont remember any team tearing down that left side against us.

Arthur is also the best dribbler we have and unlocks teams more often than not.

Its all pretty balanced from what I see.

Masuaku been playing very when as a wing back.

Re: Team for Villa
Fornals has earnt the right to continue to play.
As I keep mentioning Masuaku hasn't, he's done little. Progression into the top 5, which h is achievable tonight will only come with better players in the team .
Villa are better than they were last year but with Masuaku's tendency to give fouls away especially against players of the caliber of Grealish we'll be in trouble

I like Exiles team.

If Moyes has the balls to try 2 up front with Haller and Antonio , then Moyes will go up in my estimations.

Haller to score. Regardless.

Re: Team for Villa
Fornals has earnt his right to start.
Benny, when he gets his chance, has to take it. He showed his naivety giving a penalty away.
TBH I'd rather have Bowen through the middle than Haller. Pace all day for me.

Re: Team for Villa
Moyes uses the old "keep the shirt" model which means if the team is not losing the starting 11 keep their places.

It sometimes, like now, means that more talented players are on the bench. The idea is that its a "meritocracy". The argument for is that those on the bench are highly motivated to give 110% when they do get their chance and those in the first 11 give 110% to keep their place. Equally it breeds a squad mentality as everyone knows their are no manager "favourites".

The downside is that we might need a couple of bad results or injuries to see a change in those starting births.

The other school of thought is you always play your best 11. Other than Antonio for Haller, is there enough evidence to suggest Benrahma must definitely start ahead of Fornals or Arfur and is definitely the better player for the team? He may well be but Fornals is that proverbial "team man" who whist appearing to run about like a "headless chicken" does actually in the process do a job by closing down and denying space. Its not noticed or valued much by fans but is "dirty work" you need players to do. Benrahma hopefully does it too but we don't know yet.

The only other question I suppose is Diop for Balbuena or Ogbonna. Again no clear case just yet?

Things will stay the same until wheels fall off etc. Tonight could be that night. Villa will be a real test. Won all their away games and unlike Wolves or even Fulham will be happy to let us have the ball. We have yet to see how we unlock teams that sit and counter on us?

Re: Team for Villa
Football is about opinions but for what it is worth from what little I have seen of Benrahma he is not a natural alternative for Fornals. Lanzi on the other hand could be. Not that I think Fornals should be replaced. If Benrahma is to get more game time it would be at the expense of either Masuaku or maybe Bowen (if he can play wide right). Again based on limited evidence I don't think Benrahma will offer as much as either of these two do in tracking back. I think Benrahma might have to wait until Moyes is forced to change what seems to be a relatively successful set-up.

Benrahma needs more game time, Sullivan must be doing his nut !

Why would you change formation if you have been so successful with it?
I think people are obsessed with tweaking stuff!

if go behind tonight then i'm sure Benrahma will get his chance.

its a nice position to be in having people fighting to get on the pitch.

Re: Team for Villa
Moyes is going to play Fornals, he rates him a lot.

Fine.

But if 'Jimmy' isn't doing much, then as suggested, surely Benrahma deserves 30 mins?

Think what it is doing to his confidence.

Sajmo1 4:43 Mon Nov 30
Re: Team for Villa
Surely Benrahma starts getting 30+ minutes now. He's apparently impressing in training, works hard and has looked sharp in the few minutes he's played. Offers something completely different to both Fornals and Bowen

Re: Team for Villa
I usually agree with camel but he’s way off the mark on this one re Fornals.

He’s legitimately been one of our best players this season.

Goose

I rate Moyes, but he's got this one wrong.

He's not even giving Benrahma a run out.

Was Said a Sullivan signing forced upon Moyes? Moyes doesn't seem the type to cower and get bullied by Sullivan, but the lack of game time for the Algerian does make you wonder.

Re: Team for Villa
Camel you'll have to pick it up with your mate Moyes.

obviously he has an idea of how he wants the team to play and Fornals does the job for him.

Benrahma might be more talented, but might expose Masuaka more.
its not as simple as saying 'he's a better player'.

Nagel 4:15 Mon Nov 30
Re: Team for Villa
Seems to me that the left side is key to the way we've been playing this season. The formation's not a normal 541/343. When we have possession it's 451 with Masuaku as the winger and Cresswell as an attacking fullback. Fornals plays more central than out wide so we have more players in the middle of the park, meaning we aren't as stretched and don't lose possession so easily.

This is why I think that if Moyes were to even consider a 442, it would be with a narrow diamond midfield with the 2 forwards providing attacking width by running the channels, which Haller can't or won't do but would work for any 2 of Antonio, Bowen, Benrahma or Yarmolenko. Something like this:

...........................Fabianski..............................

Coufal.....Balbuena ......Ogbonna .....Cresswell

...............................Rice....................................

...................Soucek..........Fornals.....................

..............................Bowen.................................

.........Antonio...........................Benrahma.........

Subs:
Randolph
Diop
Masuaku
Noble
Lanzini
Yarmolenko
Haller

Re: Team for Villa
I was right on Moyes and I'm right on Benrahma.

Only when Said gets a proper run, will you see how inadequate Fornals is by comparison.

I'm like Henry Ford saying we need cars, but you lot still think the horse and cart is marvellous.
